The heritage-listed Marrinup townsite ruins is a stunning setting for bush walking trails near Dwellingup. Hidden within Marrinup State Forest, the trails are an opportunity to explore and learn about area's fascinating history.
Follow trails through the forest to small waterfalls or learn of Marrinup's unique wartime history as you walk along paths trodden by prisoners of war. These short, family-friendly hikes are a great way to explore the areas surrounding Dwellingup.
Marrinup is also ideal for mountain biking and camping, making it a versatile destination for outdoor adventures in Western Australia’s forested heart.

Walking Trails
MARRINUP FALLS WALK TRAIL – 1.3km (approx. 45mins)
The Marrinup Falls Walk Trail is a stunning, relatively easy circuit trail that meanders through lovely native bush. Enjoy the serenity, scenic views, birdlife, wildflowers in spring, native animals and waterfalls. The best time of year to see the falls flowing is during and just after the winter rains (June to early September).
Car parking at the start/finish of walk trail loop. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended to access this trail.
Marrinup POW Camp Walk Trail – 1.6km loop
Discover the remnants of World War II Marrinup No. 16 POW Camp as you wander around the heritage-listed site. Interpretive signage share stories and give insight into the lives of the German and Italian soldiers who were held there during the war and the isolation they felt while living in the bush. The best time to walk this trail is in Spring when wildflowers are making a stunning display.
Facilities available: Car parking and drop toilet facilities available at the start of the walk trail.
WORLD AWAY – 1.3km (Shared-use Trail)
This shared-use, dual direction trail follows the path taken by German and Italian prisoners of war when they walked from Marrinup to the ‘cage in the bush’ that felt a world away from their homelands. The trail will take you from Marrinup Camping Area to the start of the Marrinup POW Camp Walk Trail and also connect to the Cloak and Dagger mountain bike trail. Dogs are permitted on a leash.
