Step back into the Dream-Time and join Maitland to learn about Nyoongar – Aboriginal bush medicine and native plants.  Discover the importance of the Nyoongar six seasons and share in the experience of a traditional smoking ceremony. Relax in a natural bush setting while Maitland plays the didgeridoo and tapping sticks. You will be welcomed in his native language.
 

CEREMONIES & Events

Welcome to Country is a ceremony performed by Indigenous Australian Elders to welcome visitors to their traditional land. It can take many forms, including singing, dancing, smoke ceremonies or a speech, depending on the particular culture of the Traditional Owners.  As the Nyoongar Elder for Dwellingup, Maitland performs these important ceremonies at public events
 

ART AND ARTEFACTS

Maitland is an accomplished artist who pays respect to his ancestors and the Dreamtime through his artwork. Pastel landscapes often rendered in vivid shades of orange, yellow and blue depict images of Nyoongar people and wildlife scenes reflecting design s rich in Nyoongar culture. Find out about Aboriginal artefacts including communication methods using Message Sticks, and see traditional percussion instrument of Aboriginal people.
