DAY 1

Thrill Seekers love an adventure at local attraction, Treetops Adventure, in Lane Poole Reserve near Dwellingup, Western Australia

8am | Welcome to Dwellingup

The Blue Wren Café is as a beloved institution in Dwellingup with irresistible aromas drawing you in for breakfast. With the kids busy exploring the outdoor play space or indulging in a stack of pancakes, sip on a latte and devour a lavish breakfast. Open seven days a week, it's the perfect spot to satisfy your breakfast cravings.

9am | Adventure Starts Here

After breakfast, let the kids unleash their energy at the skatepark, pump track and playground conveniently located opposite the Dwellingup Trails & Visitor Centre. Watch as they bounce from one adventure to the next with infectious enthusiasm.

Afterwards, call into the Dwellingup Trails & Visitor Centre to gather insider tips and local maps, before walking through town admiring the murals along the way. Stop in at the Dwellingup General Store to collect supplies for a picnic lunch, and firewood for camp.

10:30am | Conquer the canopy

Take your adventure to new heights at Treetops Adventure! With over 80 aerial obstacles and 23 ziplines, embrace the adrenaline rush of high-flying excitement as you swing, climb, and zip your way through the canopy. Whether you're three or seventy-three, there's a course suited for every member of the family. You’ll be soaring and laughing like the kookaburras for hours!

1pm | Settle in and explore

After your high-flying adventure, unwind and indulge in a riverside picnic or BBQ using the facilities at Dwaarlindjirraap day use area within Lane Poole Reserve. Named after the Noongar word meaning ‘place of conversations’, Dwaarlindjirraap is the perfect place to relax for the afternoon. It’s also conveniently located across the road from your campground.

Spend the afternoon playing and exploring; take a refreshing dip in the natural rock-rimmed river pool, admire the view from the stunning 108-metre suspension bridge, or simply enjoy a relaxing paddle in the Murray River with your kayak or inflatables. Need gear? No worries! The friendly team at Dwellingup Adventures can hook you up with watercrafts and bikes for the weekend.

Camp setup begins at 2pm, and Baden Powell Campground in the Lane Poole Reserve provides the perfect backdrop for your weekend escape. With its serene ambiance, towering trees and excellent camping facilities it's the ideal spot to unwind and reconnect with nature. Lane Poole Reserve also allows dogs on leads at all times so your fur-baby can come along too.

5pm | Eat well

As the late afternoon approaches, head town for a dinner at Dwellingup Community Hotel or Longriders Café & Restaurant. Dine-in and enjoy the friendly local atmosphere or opt for a takeaway pizza to feast under the stars back at camp.

Gather around the campfire, where stories come to life and marshmallows roast to gooey perfection. Here, surrounded by the perfect simplicity of nature, you can escape the chaos of the modern world and reconnect with what truly matters – time with family, creating memories and true adventures, all under the canopy of the stars and forest.

7:30pm | Rise and shine adventurers

Embrace the leisurely pace of the early hours and the golden glow of Lane Poole Reserve. Enjoy a hearty breakfast at camp and soak in the glorious sounds of nature.

As the morning unfolds, take your time to pack up camp, leaving only footprints behind. Feel a surge of anticipation and excitement building – the trails are calling.

8pm | Trailblazing and hero dirt

Choose your own adventure on the Murray Valley Mountain Bike Trails, starting from the trail head just over the Dwaarlindjirraap Bridge. Feel the flow as you navigate Dwellingup’s iconic hero dirt, linking together trails to suit your skill level. With a mix of easy-green, moderate-blue, and challenging-black trails, there's something for everyone in this expansive network. Families can opt for the Munda Biddi Trail, an easy green route translating to 'path through the forest' in the indigenous Noongar language, perfect for an enjoyable ride together.

Prefer a leisurely hike? Head to Island Pool Walk Trail, a scenic 2km loop through the picturesque jarrah forest. This one-hour loop leads up the side of the Murray River and provides breathtaking views of the landscape below, with the seasonal appearance of wildflowers making this a popular trail in spring.

11:30am | Cheers to the weekend

Indulge in a delightful lunch at either Redgum Wine Estate or Wine Tree Cidery, where family-friendly delights await. At Redgum Wine Estate, treat yourself to premium wine tasting and delicious fare in the charming French-provincial inspired cellar door, while the kids embrace the freedom of the outdoor play area.

Meanwhile, at Wine Tree Cidery, unwind with a locally made cider as you soak up the serenity on the deck or cosy up next to a roaring wood fire during the winter months. The wide-open lawns provide ample space for the kids to roam and play. While they explore, keep an eye out for kangaroos and emus grazing on fallen fruit in the nearby orchard.

1pm | Secrets of the forest

Follow the footprints of the Emu Walk Trail to the Forest Discovery Centre, open Friday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Here, you can explore exhibits and interactive activities that will ignite your curiosity and deepen your appreciation for the forest. Wander along winding walk trails and learn about the six seasons of the Noongar calendar. Discover hidden nature playgrounds amongst the trees, before finally exploring the tree top walk and viewing platform.

2pm | Journey back in time

Wrap up your Dwellingup adventure with a scenic ride through the Darling Range aboard the Hotham Valley Tourist Railway. Be transported back to a time when travel was different; a leisurely pace and relaxation was part of the experience.

For an iconic journey, hop aboard the puffing Steam Ranger, which winds its way through the enchanting Dwellingup Forest on Sundays between May and October. For a year-round experience, embark on the open-air Forest Train, departing Saturdays throughout the year and Sundays during the warmer months of November to April.
