Hotham Valley Forest Train
Explore The Forest Line
The historic Dwellingup Forest Train takes you 8 kilometres eastward from Dwellingup to Etmilyn, along the state's last surviving lightly built developmental railway. The open carriages give you the most incredibly unique view of the spectacular Dwellingup jarrah forest, hauled by a V Class Diesel Locomotives built in the late 1940's. Just like 'Thomas The Tank Engine' there is a train for every purpose in Dwellingup. Why not ride them all?
Upon departing Dwellingup the pace is leisurely as the train rolls along eastward towards Etmilyn - a former steam locomotive watering stop 8 kilometres east of Dwellingup. At the end of the line enjoy a 20-25 minute walk along the Etmilyn Forest Heritage Trail. Starting from the steam locomotive water tank foundations, the 1km loop trail is a gentle 20-25 minute walk through the Etmilyn Forest filled with beautiful plant life and seasonal wildflowers unique to this area of forest. Before too long, the locomotive horn will sound in readiness for your departure and the train returns back along the line to Dwellingup.
"Lovely ride through the forest. When the train stops to turn the Loco around, you get a chance to take a short forest walk. "
