OUR RICH HERITAGE

The Murray Region holds a significant place in the colonization of Western Australia when Thomas Peel established a settlement at the mouth of the Murray River in 1830. As the young colony was established, industry and indigenous culture collided. Our heritage is one of entrepreneurial pioneers, dark stories and cultural reconciliation.

A RIVER RUNS THROUGH

The Murray River shapes the landscape as it slithers its way down from high up in the Darling Ranges, down the Scarp. The river forms flood plains, pools, back waters and lakes, before it disappears into the Peel Inlet. Water courses through the veins of our region. In the past it has fueled industry and today is the lifeblood of our aquatic playground.
